Our Difference

The Mugavin family has farmed this coastal region for generations, caring for the same land that now produces Mugavin Beef. Today, Tim continues that tradition, raising cattle on his Killarney farm with deep respect for animal welfare, the environment and long-term sustainability.

Just minutes from Port Fairy, Tim’s farm sits in a unique coastal pocket where fresh ocean air, nutrient-rich pastures and a mild climate naturally shape the character of his beef. This environment cannot be replicated, it’s tasted in every cut.

Leon, Tim’s brother, and owner of The Leaf Store, buys the cattle directly from Tim. No middlemen. No mystery. Just trust built through family, shared values and a commitment to quality.

Together, they’ve created Mugavin Beef - a premium Victorian beef brand grounded in provenance, raised with care, and crafted with intent.

Tim raises his cattle slowly and calmly, grazing year-round on natural pasture. There are no feedlots, no rushing the process, and no compromise on welfare. The result is beef that reflects its environment - naturally seasoned by salt-laden sea air, shaped by climate and pasture, and deeply flavoured without intervention.

The farm sits within a historic volcanic region of south-west Victoria, where volcanic activity thousands of years ago formed the land as it is today. Across the paddocks, basalt boulders rise naturally from the soil - physical reminders of the volcanic forces that shaped this landscape.

Those volcanic soils are rich in minerals and naturally fertile, supporting deep-rooted grasses that thrive in the coastal climate. Combined with fresh ocean air and steady rainfall, the land produces resilient, nutrient-dense pastures that cattle graze on year-round.

From paddock to shelf, every step is known and trusted. Once the cattle leave the farm, it’s now time for Leon to take the reins. The beef goes directly to a trusted butcher, where it is cut weekly - fresh, precise, and to order. Leon liaises directly with the butcher at every stage of the process before the packaged beef arrives straight to Leaf’s shelves.
